Valentine’s Day, whether you’re a fan or not, can be one of the most stressful holidays. There’s the obvious stress of being single and alone but there’s other stressors that get a little less attention. Even if you’re lucky enough to have a boo this V-Day, there is still reason to freak the f out. You might be thinking, “Will my S.O. take me on a fun date?” “Where will we go?” “What will we do?” And possibly the most daunting question of all, “What will I wear?” This Valentine’s Day you can chill out a little because I got your back! I know how stressful planning outfits for dates can be so let us take that off your plate. I've put together outfits for every type of date, even Netflix and Chill! Feel free to use this as inspiration or you can just buy the exact pieces from this article. Everything is linked so all you have to do is click ‘buy’ and you’re guaranteed to have the trendiest V-Day of all time while putting in the least amount of effort. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love that? Coffee Date For a coffee date, it’s important to look like you didn’t put in too much effort. You want to look good but you also don’t want to roll up to Colectivo or Starbucks in a full length dress. A perfect formula for a coffee date outfit in the winter is a sweater and jeans. These jeans from LA brand, Revice denim are perfect for Valentine’s Day. It’s almost like your screaming ‘I’m cute and I love love’ every time you wear them. They are also on theme with the day which is a major plus. I paired them with this chunky grey turtle neck sweater to keep the look comfy and casual. Since the jeans on their own are a little loud, make sure your other accessories are a little more low key. Remember, it’s just coffee you want to wear something that you would believably wear on a normal day. Netflix and Chill Date When Netflix and Chill is what you and bae are feeling for Valentine’s, the look you should be going for is ‘I woke up like this.’ The key here is to throw on something you would classify as chic pajamas because the outfit I’ve compiled for this date is pretty much that. I started with the black and beige teddy coat. This coat is very trendy right now and it’s also cozy which makes it perfect for this type of date. As far as attire under the teddy coat, think trendy sweatpants. These black joggers with this gray tank, both from Urban Outfitters, are sure to give you that sexy flawless look to make your Netflix date go from great to awesome. Dinner Date A Valentine’s dinner date is a little more high key so you want your outfit to be too. A good place to start when planning this is to grab you favorite dress. Once you’ve found that, you can work your accessories around it. Obviously, you can also start by buying this beautiful black dress from Urban Outfitters. To spice up this outfit, I added some booties. I picked these pinkish Jeffrey Campbell ones not only because they pair nicely with the dress but also to stay V-Day festive! You can also add a fun purse for a pop of color or the teddy coat from the Netfilx and Chill date to stay warm.

Ever since I've been able to dress myself, I've worn a uniform to school. Because of this, I got very used to waking up and not even thinking about what I was going to wear that day. I was so spoiled that when freshman year of college rolled around, I had pretty much completely lost touch with the reality of what people wore to class. On the first day, I showed up with my hair in the messiest bun of all time, a t-shirt that was way too big, Nike shorts that couldn't even be seen, bright pink socks and Birkenstocks. I figured everyone would be dressed in this same theme but I was so wrong. Apparently, going to class, especially on the first day, was not the ratty clothing fest that I thought it would be but instead the time to break out your comfy but still cute and trendy clothes. After that first day, everyone's dress started to slip a little which made me feel better but I didn't want to be the worst dressed person in the room ever again. It took me awhile to figure out how to pull this off but through trial and error I discovered the best way to look trendy and cute throughout the whole semester. My hack for living the life of trend without trying too hard is five pieces that are versatile, comfy, plain and, of course, trendy as hell. Each semester these five items change and here are my five for this fall! 1. Fun Flowy PantsFlowy pants are the ultimate item for heading to class in vogue. This cheeky mirror pic of me was actually taken on the first day of classes this year (stay tuned for a #ootd post about it). I got these pleated accordion pants at Urban Outfitters only a few days ago and I'm already in love with them! They are super comfortable and the perfect color for fall. The photo on the right is also a pair of pants from Urban Outfitters, but this type of pant is really in style so you can get a pair pretty much anywhere (Forever 21 pair here). The reason I love this look so much is that you can feel like you're wearing sweatpants and simultaneously look super cute. 2. Silk BandanasTalk about an outfit game changer. I am so obsessed with these right now because they can take an outfit from 0 to 100 in roughly 3 seconds. I also love this one from Madewell particularly because it is soft enough that you can wear it around your neck all day without feeling like your oxygen is being cutoff. I usually like to pair this with a pretty plain outfit because then it stands out and, lets be honest, a plain outfit takes about half the effort an exciting one takes. My favorite look for class in a silk bandana is a white v-neck shirt with a pair of ripped jeans and the navy scarf in the picture on the right. 3. Cool SneakersNow I know what you're thinking and no I do not mean that you can continue to wear your black and white Adidas to class and call it fashion. I'm talking real cool sneakers. Ones that will get a compliment when you rock them because they are way to eye catching to ignore. My favorite sneakers right now are this pair of Golden Goose brand shoes in the middle picture. The picture above doesn't fully do them justice but they are iridescent white with mauve details and average about 6 compliments per wear. Unfortunately, they're a little on the expensive side but it is so easy to find affordable sweet sneakers like the Converse all-stars on the right or the one-stars on the left. It's all about being original no matter what sneaker you decide to sport. 4. Jean JacketsJean jackets are my absolute go to for looking put together for classes. No matter what you are wearing underneath, a jean jacket totally makes it look like you tried. Any jean jacket will do the trick but right now oversized look is super in. My current favorite one is this distressed jacket from Topshop. I love it not only because its super comfy but because it got me featured on Topshop's website! *shameless self plug* I'm also totally loving patched jean jackets like the one in the picture on the right from Missguided. 5. sIMPLE sTATEMENT nECKLACESOut of all the items I've listed so far, this is the one that takes the smallest amount of effort. Some days when I really just am not feelin' trying to come up with an outfit, I throw on my oversized sorority shirt with some short shorts and a gold choker like the one on the right and BOOM I look trendy. The other awesome thing about this item is you can find it pretty much anywhere for pretty cheap. The one in the picture of me on the left is from Urban Outfitters and only cost me $14 (similar here). The other necklace I am wearing is a Kendra Scott which is a little pricier but totally worth the investment!
Hopefully these items will take your back-to-school wardrobe to a whole new level so you can flex on everyone with how trendy you are every single day this year! Happy back to school! xoxo Molly Today, asos.com is one of the best and biggest online stores for cheap trendy items or 'fast fashion.' However, it is not for rookies. At first glance, it can be extremely overwhelming. There are about a million categories and once you manage to pick one of them, there are a million more items to sort through. The socks category alone has 310 choices. I mean come on! The other problem is that its hard to know your size. Some things run big and some run small. Some are tight around the hips but too loose on the top. Some things look amazing on the model and even though they might fit they might just not look right. I have shopped on this website more than a few times and I've gotten it down to a science. There are three things to think about while shopping that will hopefully help you to find the super cute pieces you're always seeing on fashion blogs. The first thing I do when I get to the website is click the drop down menu for women and select the 'new in: clothing' tab. This is where you'll find the stuff that is so new that literally no one will have it yet which is amazing. Once your there, the best thing to do is to scroll through the pages until you find something that represents your style. This way you'll find other things that you'll like without going through 300 pages of clothing. As I scrolled, this blue and white sundress was the first thing that caught my eye. When you get to the page of the item you selected, throw it in your bag. Then scroll down till you see the things "you might also like." This is where asos will select a number of pieces that are a similar style to the one you found. The strategy for shopping this way is to scroll through this bar and click on things you like then scroll down that page and look at the recommended things related to the item you just picked and repeat that process. I will show what I mean in screenshots below in case my explanation was a little confusing. I grabbed the gingham dress from under the blue and white and then scrolled down to find these options. You can keep doing this forever or you can go back to the new in page to find different styles. Another great part of this site is that it gives you the links to the outfit the model is wearing so you don't have to piece it together yourself!
Sizing on asos can be a little tricky. Lots of people don't have a consistent dress size and even if you do, not every item will fit the same. However, I think I've finally figured out a formula that solves this problem most of the time. To start, check the sizing chart to find out what dress size you should be. Once you know that, its time to do some self-assessing. I usually wear a dress size 2 and a small or x-small. My hips are big in comparison to the rest of my body so a size 2 shirt is usually too big and bottoms in a size 0 is are small. If that sounds like you, do your normal dress size for bottoms and size down on the top. Depending on your body type, you could do the opposite of that or the same size for both. Another thing to keep in mind is your skin tone. I am super pale so if I order a dress that is a neutral shade of pink, it might wash me out but a navy dress will look amazing. That is why a piece can look stunning on the model in the photo but only so so once you get it on. This webpage is really helpful for finding colors that go well with your skin tone. To be honest, the best thing to do is to order a bunch of stuff just to try it on and see what works and send the stuff that doesn't fit back. My first order consisted of 13 items, 11 of which I sent back. Its all about trial and error. Luckily, this site offers free returns and it is super easy! You also get all your money back!! Hopefully this helps! Good luck shopping. xoxo Molly If you know me and my shopping habits, you know that Nordstrom is one of my favorite stores on the planet. If you didn't already know, now you do! Yay you! Anyway, now that you know this, you can attempt to understand my complete euphoria when my mom told me she got me an appointment to shop the sale with a personal shopper. It was magical. When I walked into the dressing room, I was met with walls full of clothes and jewelry and a floor full of shoes and purses. It was heaven but I digress. The main goal of this appointment was to find some business casual clothes but I managed to work in fun things too! Since I'm fresh off my freshman year in college, it's becoming increasingly important to have a few business casual outfits for interviews and internships. It's even nice to have for sorority events where you want to look nice and not just wear that same boring black dress you've worn to every formal chapter meeting (sorority girls, you know what I'm saying). My personal shopper did an amazing job not only of finding me stuff that was super on sale but also that was professional without being too old and frumpy. The picture on the right shows one of the best business casual outfits I found! It's a Milly skirt that is reminiscent of Chanel, a black blouse (unfortunately the only thing I bought that wasn't on sale) that, if you look closely, has some fun cutouts by the shoulders and a cute little pair of black mules. Once I found 3 full business outfits, the fun began. My absolute favorite thing that I found was the gold metallic moto jacket in the picture on the left! The instant I saw it I was absolutely in love and could not live without it even though I had found 3 other jackets while shopping. I left with the store with a giant hole in my bank account where my paycheck used to be but it was totally worth it. The discounts were beyond amazing and the items I found were even better. Look forward to lots of #OOTD posts featuring my loot from the best sale ever!
(I can't link anything yet because the sale is only open to Nordstrom cardholders until the 21st but I'll do my best to update this post when the sale goes public.) |
